Thanks grelbar. DRM-free music with the iTunes store was a matter of time, looking at the rest of the industry. A big thanks for that goes to Amazon with their mp3 store. The question here is really if the average Joe cares about DRM or even knows what it is. Apple obviously has the definite advantage of having the store embedded with their platform. When you start iTunes the first time your landing page is the store. iPod sales aren't making that worse either. Personally i have never, and never will, buy anything with DRM. I have bought a lot of DRM free music and plan to continue to do that. Give me what i want and i will pay for it.

Android feels very beta to me. Note that this is without having actually used the G1 but from what i've seen online "they're not getting it". Google of course is famous for their beta tag but to anybody who's not a geek it's not appealing to have something where you can do anything. It's about ease of use, not the amount of possibilities/features. Same goes for Microsoft. Still i'm very interested to see where it goes, i'm sure Android will have a bright future but i would give it atleast a year. Looking at where we are with technology Google doesn't have a choice really. Throw more people and money at the problem! ;)

Regarding the HTC Android phone i don't know. "My hood" is Amsterdam nowadays which is pretty different than San Francisco. At work we're looking at various mobile devices and it's a bit of a mess. While i'm definitely for competition i'm also for having a bit more standardized platform so that we can develop useful applications that people can use regardless of location/device/provider. Well, maybe in a couple years..

One of my favourite posts of yours. This is something that's on everyone's lips nowadays, the whole Apple thing and also Android.

Have you looked in to the DRM free iTunes shop at all? How does that work out, and has there been anything in your local circles or the media out where you live?

Personally, i like the idea of buying one song that i like, instead of being forced to buy the entire god damn album, and i'd be willing to support that. But the thing about the iTunes thing was that everything contained god damn DRM which I won't be caught dead using. They had the "increased bitrate non-DRM versions of "some" songs back in '08, but they were pretty damn limited, and cost an extra 30 cents anyway.

Also, on Android. There was an article in Tietokone on the first Android platform phone from HTC, and it had a list price of 299€. Now i can't find this phone anywhere for that price, even the states :D So i'm really wondering on this one.. any word on such devices in your 'hood?
